Benchmark Framework
THE BENCHMARK OF PACKAGING EXCELLENCE
The Packaging News Sustainability & Impact Awards are setting a new national and international standard for packaging performance. They reward measurable results, not empty claims. They recognise effort, innovation and accountability at every level of achievement. And they offer something of lasting value — insight, recognition and the mark of verified excellence. From Finalist to Gold, every award tells the story of progress.
All entries are evaluated against a benchmark of excellence.
Finalists who reach the shortlist will receive a Finalist Mark of recognition. Entries that meet or exceed the benchmark in their category will receive Gold, Silver or Bronze certification.
Gold, Silver and Bronze winners receive:
- A Packaging News Sustainability & Impact Awards logo for use in marketing and packaging communications
- A Benchmark Report providing insight into how their entry performed and where further progress can be made
We encourage entrants to apply annually to maintain or improve their benchmark position, whether that means moving from Finalist to Bronze, from Bronze to Silver, or defending Gold. Achieving and retaining Gold status demonstrates sustained leadership and excellence within the packaging industry.
HOW THE BENCHMARK WORKS
Each entry is reviewed by a panel of independent judges from across the packaging ecosystem. Projects and businesses are scored across five key criteria:
- Circular design and material efficiency
- Carbon impact and lifecycle performance
- Innovation and scalability
- Transparency and compliance
- Social and environmental outcomes
Based on total score, results are awarded as:
- Finalist : Recognised benchmark standard for projects demonstrating excellence and innovation worthy of shortlisting
- Bronze : Strong performance and clear commitment to progress
- Silver : High achievement and evidence of measurable impact
- Gold : Benchmark of excellence and leadership within the industry
Finalists and winners receive permission to display their respective Packaging News Marks in marketing, communications and packaging collateral.
Example:
Finalist Mark: “Recognised for meeting the Packaging News benchmark of sustainable excellence.”
Gold Mark: “Awarded Gold in the Packaging News Sustainability & Impact Awards 2026 for industry-leading impact in circular packaging.”
Your entry includes a full Benchmark Report and the opportunity to secure your Packaging News Sustainability Mark at Finalist, Bronze, Silver or Gold level.
Celebrate your progress. Demonstrate your impact. Set the standard.
